Liechtenstein

Did you know...? Liechtenstein is the world's leading manufacturer of false teeth.

It is common to greet each other by handshake. Small talk can be performed but is rather superficial. Many Liechtensteiners do not appreciate being asked about their occupation, family or personal interests. The communication does not require many gestures or emotional talking. In fact, some people might find expressive communication rather distracting than helpful.Colleagues are addressing each other by surnames.

Many family-run companies are characterised by a strong hierarchy that does not only consist of the degree of qualification but also the age and social status. According to this, there are a couple of strict rules in each company about how to address and communicate with each other. But of course, not all companies work the same and can also be more liberal.

In Liechtensteiner companies, punctuality is very important. And you might leave a better impression if you do not arrive to an appointment right on time, but five to ten minutes earlier. That shows your respect for the others and your ability to properly manage time.
