Norway

Did you know...? More than 90% of Norway's energy comes from hydro-electric power plants.

It is common to greet each other by a firm handshake. The small talk is held quite shortly. Topics for an uncomplicated small talk are for example winter sports, nature and culture. As many Norwegians are very modest, you should avoid too much self-display or too personal questions.

At work it is very common to only address by first names, regardless if the person is a manager or your colleague. Further, it is unlikely to work overtime or to question the personal leisure time after work. In public places or wherever you meet strangers, many Norwegians avoid physical contact with others.

At work, lunch breaks are relatively short. It is also not very common to meet up for after-work drinks, on one hand, because alcohol is very expensive, on the other, because the family and private leisure time are very important.

Punctuality is not only important at work, but also in personal matters. If you happen to be delayed, you should contact the other person and apologise after you finally arrive.
